The Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering and The Department of Civil and Structural Engineering are currently recruiting to a number of exciting academic positions with a focus on infrastructure.
Infrastructure is a key strategic research area for the Faculty of Engineering and the University. Considerable investment is being made in this area with the aim of establishing Sheffield as a world leading research hub in future infrastructure systems.
A key part of our strategy is the new Integrated Civil and Infrastructure Research Centre (ICAIR), a state-of-the-art research facility intended to accelerate innovation and develop long-term academic and industrial collaborations. ICAIR was established jointly by the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering and the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering with funding from The University of Sheffield, the European Regional Development Fund and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
Professor of Intelligent Infrastructure Systems / ICAIR Director
The post will expand our research capability in intelligent systems research, focusing on embedding “intelligence” - namely sensing, analytics, control and actuation technologies - within the infrastructure systems that deliver critical services, such as transport, telecommunications, water and energy, and on applying concepts from systems, information, control and optimisation theories to analyse, design, and optimise civil infrastructure. The goal is to make infrastructure systems adaptable, self-sustaining and resilient to environmental shocks whilst delivering high performance and efficiency.
