Nigel Somerville Roberts is currently a consultant as well as a Visiting Fellow at the Universities of Sheffield, Leeds and Birmingham. He specialises in powder processing including detergents, food and ceramics, as well as Intellectual Property consulting.

After a 26-year career with Procter and Gamble, ultimately as a Research Fellow, he left in Sept 2017 to set up his own consulting company. Areas of process expertise include granulation (batch and continuous), coating, fluid bed operations, finishing processes and plant design and commissioning. Nigel joined P&G in 1991 with a MEng in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cambridge.

After joining P&G, he worked on a wide range of continuous and batch granulation processes, including roller compaction, in Europe, the United States and Japan. In 1999, Nigel developed the first soluble film unit dose detergent pouches. He also has experience in complex fluids processing, microwave processing and microfluidic devices, plus consumer-based research.

Nigel currently has 91 granted US and European patents. As part of his consultancy work, he collaborates with a network of trusted associates and former colleagues to offer consultancy services in a wide range of fields including process development, engineering design, process data management, product and process development, consumer insight and intellectual property strategy.
