Binocular Vision
Our research into binocular vision focuses on understanding visual function, adaptations, and plasticity within the visual system. This has included studying vision in deaf individuals, sign language users, people with autism and action video game players.
A key achievement is the development of the FD2 stereotest to measure distance stereopsis, now used worldwide in the assessment of intermittent exotropia and other clinical orthoptic investigations.
We also investigate treatment outcomes, including the effects of strabismus surgery on patients with psychosocial symptoms, as well as the impact of visual conditions such as amblyopia and diplopia. Our team has extensive expertise in designing and conducting local and multicentre clinical trials, ensuring that our research translates directly into improved patient care.
Through this work, we aim to enhance both clinical understanding and patient outcomes, while informing evidence-based practice and guiding future therapeutic strategies.
