Arriving at the department

You will have booked to visit us 10am to 12.30pm or 1.30pm to 4pm on your offer holder day. Please arrive in good time for the start of your booked session, as we'll need to scan the QR code from your booking to register you.

Your arrival location is: The Diamond, Lecture Theatre 7. You can view this on our interactive campus map, and there will also be lots of open day staff and ambassadors around campus to assist you.

If you arrive late for your booked session, please report to the general information stand on the Students’ Union concourse, where event staff will be able to help.

When booking, you'll be able to reserve a place for yourself and one guest at the department activities. To ensure safe venue capacities, the department will be unable to accommodate any additional unbooked visitors.

However, you're welcome to bring additional guests to accompany you on the day, and we would encourage these guests to take part in our range of central exhibitions and tours while the department activities are running.

Taster session activity

Applicants will work in teams to program one of our state of the art MiRo-E robots. Programming in a scratch-like environment, each team will need to make MiRo navigate a maze as quickly as possible, without crashing into anything!

Finance talk

While you are taking part in activities, your guest will receive a talk on student finance, future career prospects and the support and scholarships that are available. They'll also get a chance to speak to current students and staff about the exciting opportunities that are available to you, and where a degree from Sheffield can lead.

Competition and Student Journey

As guests re-join with students you will demonstrate your final MiRo E-robot programme in a small competition. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team! This will be followed by short student journey presentations.

Refreshments & Closing

In addition to the scheduled activity, the department would be pleased if you could join them afterwards for refreshments and an opportunity for further informal conversation with staff and current students. For those visiting the department in the morning, refreshments will be served 12.30-1.00pm, in The Diamond basement. For those visiting in the afternoon, refreshments will be served 4.00-4.30pm, in The Diamond basement.

Science and Engineering Foundation Year (SEFY)

If you are holding an offer for one of our courses with a Foundation Year, an information stand will be available just inside the Diamond's main entrance (off Leavygreave Road) from 12-2.30pm where you can drop in at any point to find out more and ask any questions.
