MSc Data Communications (Eng)
MSc student Yuqing is currently studying for an MSc in Data Communications and shares what she loves most about the course and living in the city of Sheffield.

Why did you choose to study Data Communications at the University of Sheffield?

Sheffield is a very inclusive city. I like Sheffield's Peak District. The environment and climate here are very pleasant. I chose Data Communications because my undergraduate degree was in electronics and communication engineering. Through my undergraduate studies, I found that there are still many things in the field of Communications that I don't know. The rapid development of communication and data communication plays an important role in many fields.

What you have enjoyed most about the course so far and what have you found challenging?

Now that I have finished all my teaching courses, I found that my courses cover a lot of fields, such as the Network Analysis module, which is brand new to me. I want to start with mathematics and then combine computer theory knowledge. The most important thing is mathematical knowledge. After mastering several mathematical models, learning this module is very easy.

What do you think of living in Sheffield?

Living in Sheffield allows me to enjoy unprecedented peace. There are also many Chinese restaurants in Sheffield, and it also gives me a taste of home.

What would you recommend that people do and visit when they come to live here?

The Peak District. I cannot describe the beauty of the Peak District in words.

What do you think of the University and the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering?

We have a group of very friendly staff, and my teachers are also very friendly.  My personal tutor and my project tutor have been particularly helpful.

What are your plans for the future?

I hope to find a job in Yorkshire and to be able to work on FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) design in the future.
