Arts Tower Entrance Improvement Works
Work will be taking place to refurbish the steps and paving. We will also be replacing and repositioning the ramp and relocating the disabled parking spaces (near to the new ramp).

Expected Timeframe
June to October 2025. The work is being phased so access can be maintained.
Terrazzo paving and steps
We are experiencing problems with the existing terrazzo stone paving at the entrance to the Arts Tower. The original paving installed in the 1960s is at end of life and has become cracked and has lifted, causing trip hazards to those using the building. We have repaired cracked pavers over the years, but the condition is now beyond repair and needs complete replacement.Black terrazzo stone is being sourced to accurately match the existing colour and pattern.
The steps are cracked beyond repair, and need to be replaced.
The ramp and disabled parking spaces
Our existing ramp does not meet current access legislation, as it is too steep and too long.
It is noted that the ramp was installed after completion of the building. As such, the planners have accepted it can be replaced and relocated to the other side of the entrance, and redesigned to make it compliant with the current legislation.
We will also move the disabled parking spaces near to the new ramp.
Considerations for building users during the works
Access will be maintained from the car park to the main entrance doors throughout the work.
The existing ramp and disabled parking will be available for use through the works until the new ramp and relocated disabled parking spaces are created.
Work will be noisy and potentially dusty at times, but we will make sure this is mitigated, using barriers, moving cutting away from entrance, and considering timing of work. Some work will take place during weekends.
Working on a Grade II* Listed Building
We have been working closely with Historic England and Sheffield City Council Conservation Team to make sure we have an agreed solution, which will be sympathetic to the requirements of the Grade II* Listed Building.
