Relocation to the UK

Moving to the UK to study can seem like a daunting task but we are here to help you every step of the way. The University's International Office provides valuable help and assistance for prospective international students, including information specific to students from various countries. The University also provides orientation programmes and meet and greet services, designed to help you settle in and introduce you to life as an international student in Sheffield.

English Language Skills

You will have the opportunity to improve your English language skills here in the department, as we offer a wealth of support and guidance and a range of internal assistance. As a student in the Department of Geography, you will have free weekly access to an instructor from the English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC), who specialises in reading comprehension and writing support for students whose first language is not English. There are also regular drop-in sessions for individuals with particular needs.

If English is not your first language and you don't have a degree taught in English, we will require proof of your English language capabilities. You will need an overall IELTS (International English Testing Service) score of 6.5 (with at least 6.0 in each component), or equivalent.
