Profile

I work as a Lecturer with the University of Sheffield and as a Senior Nurse with Sheffield Health and Social Care Foundation Trust (SHSC FT). I qualified as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in 1987 and have worked in a range of clinical, practice development and teaching roles with an emphasis on the care of people living with dementia.

Research interests

My research focuses on developing and evaluating methods and approaches that enable the knowledge of people with dementia to be heard in health and social care, research and education. My PhD explored the use of Life Story Work with people living with dementia. I was a Clinical Research Academy Fellow with the University of Sheffield School of Health and Related Research from September 2015 – 2017. I have a research lead role in the NHS with a remit to develop the research capacity and capability of mental health nurses within SHSC FT. I have an interest in research ethics.

Current projects

I am the co-ordinator for a project where people living with dementia are leading a research project on Driving with Dementia funded by Dementia Engagement and Empowerment Group (DEEP) Dementia Enquirers (see here).
