Entry requirements for students from the Caribbean and West Indies

We have been welcoming students from The Caribbean and West Indies for many years and our staff are very familiar with the Caribbean and West Indies education systems and qualifications. High entrance requirements for our degree programmes at Sheffield reflect the quality of the University.

Entry requirements

Undergraduate Programmes e.g. BSc, BA, BEng/MEng

A variety of qualifications can be considered for direct admission to undergraduate bachelor degree programmes. All applications for undergraduate programmes should be made through UCAS.

Caribbean Examinations Council Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC)
Would not qualify for direct UG Entry, students would need to provide a recognised Foundation Programme to be considered for UG entry.                                                                                                                            

CXC Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE)
At the two unit level level II and above can be considered for Bachelor level entry.

A Level
Applicants with a minimum of 3 A levels will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate programmes.

Associate Degree
Can be considered for entry to Bachelors programmes if the Associate Degree was awarded by any of the following;
Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (except an associate degree in general nursing, as equivalent to BTEC level)
Barbados Community College
College of the Bahamas
University of the West Indies                                    

International Baccalaureate
International Baccalaureate diploma holders will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate programmes.

Required scores and subjects vary from course to course and can be found in our online prospectus.

Postgraduate Taught Programmes e.g. MA, MSc

Holders of a good bachelors degree from the University of the West Indies will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate diploma or masters programmes.

Postgraduate Research Programmes e.g. MPhil, PhD, PhD with Integrated Masters

Holders of a good Masters degree from The University of The West Indies will be considered for direct admission to Postgraduate Research programmes.
