Welcome to the Medical Electives Programme

Applications for 2018 will open from 1st November 2017.

We are no longer taking applications for 2017.

There are currently three placements per month available through the University of Sheffield elective programme. If these placements are filled before the deadline date above, we will close the application round. Many apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

The University of Sheffield and the Sheffield Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (STH) are offering three elective placements per month to Undergraduate Medical students in their clinical year of study. Placements will be in a variety of departments and will run for four weeks starting from the first Wednesday of each month from May 2018 onwards. We are working closely with the STH to develop exciting and academically robust elective placements. The University of Sheffield will oversee the initial application process. Once that is complete, the Medical School will liaise with the STH to complete the processing of your application.

Due to the busy nature of our hospitals, we will only accept placements starting on the following dates:

  • 2nd May 2018
  • 6th June 2018
  • 4th July 2018
  • 1st August 2018
  • 5th September 2018
  • 3rd October 2018
  • 7th November 2018

Any elective applications with start dates outside these dates will not be accepted.
