Visiting us on an open day gives you the opportunity to experience our friendly learning environment and our sense of community.
Our students tell us they feel at home the moment they arrived here. The department is based in the Elmfield building which offers you a peaceful, picturesque learning environment. It is within walking distance of the multi-award winning Students Union, Sheffield city centre and a whole host of museums and parks.
University open days
The University open days take place between June and October each year. These events provide a fantastic opportunity for our prospective students to visit the University, often for the first time. You will have the opportunity to book onto one of our departmental talks where you can learn more about the Department of Sociological Studies and the courses we offer.
Summer open days
- Saturday 24 June
- Saturday 8 July
Autumn open days
- Saturday 9 September
- Saturday 21 October
- Saturday 18 November
Applicant open days
When you receive an offer to study with the Department of Sociological Studies, you will be invited to attend an Applicant Open Day. This will give you a chance to view your learning environment, and you'll also be given more detailed information about the course and meet with academic staff.
The day will normally include:
- A visit to the Student Experience Exhibition
- Introductory talk on our courses and the department
- Taster Seminar
- Q&A with Admissions Officer
- Opportunity to meet staff and current students
To book your place, log in to MUSE for applicants with your applicant log in details (you will have been sent these via email when you received your offer).
Come and take a tour of the University central campus.
They take place on selected weekdays and leave at 1pm from the Students' Union Welcome Desk.
If the date you'd like to visit doesn't appear on the booking form, this means it's fully booked or that there is no tour taking place on that particular date.
Attending the Sheffield open day largely contributed to my decision to study at the University. Having the opportunity to speak to staff from the Department of Sociological Studies, meet current students and explore Sheffield as a city provided me with a great insight into what it would be like to study and live in Sheffield.
