Support for refugee students and scholars
We are committed to supporting students and staff who are fleeing war and persecution. We have a range of scholarships, schemes and support available and we welcome refugees to join our Sheffield community.

Sanctuary scholarships
The University offers ten Sanctuary Scholarships for students who are experiencing forced migration due to war or persecution. ELTC Scholarships
Our English Language Training Centre (ELTC) offers four scholarship places for students and other people who have sought refuge in the UK and want to improve their English language skills.
Scholarships for refugees wishing to improve their English
The Discover Course
The University’s Department of Lifelong Learning offers the Discover Course for adults over 21 who haven’t been to university but are interested in accessing higher education in the UK. We encourage refugees and asylum seekers who are interested in learning more about attending university to apply for the course.
Support for current students
The University offers a range of wellbeing, financial and practical support for students who have been affected by war and persecution in their home country. If you are a current student please visit our Student Services Information Desk (students only link) to access support.
Support for current staff
The University has a number of resources available for current staff who are affected by the war in Ukraine or have been forced to migrate to the UK for other reasons. To find out more visit our Health and Wellbeing website (staff only link).
