Students applying for 2023/24 accommodation
We know that you are excited and also maybe a little nervous to get your results this year, but don’t worry as we have everything covered if you choose to accept a course at the University of Sheffield and come to live in University accommodation.
If you accept an offer through Confirmation and Clearing by 31 August 2023, we'll guarantee you accommodation in University accommodation. You must apply by 31 August 2023 to ensure that you get your place reserved.
How do I apply for accommodation?
When you receive your offer from the University of Sheffield and accept this offer in your UCAS Hub, our Admissions Team will contact you by email confirming your place. They will also invite you to apply for accommodation.
If you join the University through adjustments or insurance...
You need to accept any change in your offer in your UCAS Hub, there’s a slight delay in the information regarding the status of applications being transferred from UCAS out to the University and then from our Admissions Department out to all of the other areas of of the University who require this information - This can be anywhere between 24 – 48 working hours depending on how many applications are currently being processed within the system. You will then be able to apply for accommodation.
If you join the University through clearing...
Within 48 hours of issuing your offer, we'll send you an email from UniversityAccountSetup@sheffield.ac.uk containing your username and inviting you to activate your account by following the instructions in our account activation site.
You can find more about this here - please be aware that it can take up to 48 hours from the creation of your MUSE account before you will be able to access the accommodation portal.

- When can I apply?
Clearing Open Day
If you’re attending the Clearing Open Day, you can secure your accommodation on the day. There will be signs up around the residences with a QR code for you to complete a Google Form, we have en-suite rooms available at Ranmoor/Endcliffe and City.
Not attending the Open Day
If you aren't attending the Open Day, when you receive your offer from the University of Sheffield and accept this offer in your UCAS Hub, our Admissions Team will contact you by email confirming your place. They will also invite you to apply for accommodation.
- Am I guaranteed accommodation?
Yes - We guarantee University accommodation to all students covered by the Accommodation Guarantee providing that students apply by 31 August.
- How will I get my accommodation offer?
Once your application has been assessed by the Accommodation Team, you’ll get an email from the Accommodation Office with an accommodation offer.
- How do I accept my offer of accommodation?
Log in to the Accommodation Portal which will guide you through the process. The Accommodation offer email will contain the information on accepting your offer.
- What type of rooms are available?
A range of room types at Ranmoor/Endcliffe and City are available for students joining us through clearing, including catered accommodation at Endcliffe. Why not take a look around on our 360 virtual tours?
- When can I book my room?
To book your accommodation, firstly you’ll need to set up your MUSE account. You’ll receive an email from ‘firstname.lastname@example.org’ which will invite you to create your account.
Once you have created your MUSE account, it can take up to 48 hours for your information to be passed over to the Accommodation Team.
The cascading of information as a part of Confirmation and Clearing is an automated process - unfortunately, the Accommodation Team are unable to expedite the process.

University accommodation is quite simply the only place to be during your first year as we have the largest student community in Sheffield with students from across the world. Our Residence Life team will be on hand to support you throughout your time in the residences plus we have thousands of free events and activities across the year for you to get involved with.
