Belief, No Belief and Religious (BNBR) Life Centre
The BNBR Life Centre is here for all staff and students. Our chaplains and religious advisers provide a listening ear and pastoral support to all people whatever their identity, religion, belief or no belief. We are available in person, online, and via phone or video calls.
What we do
Welcome to our new name!
The Belief, No Belief and Religious (BNBR) Life Centre is the new name for the Chaplaincy Centre. Our shortened title is BNBR Life Centre.
Following a university-wide Listening Project from 2020 on belief, no belief and religion inclusion, we have changed the centre name to help students and staff better understand who we are and make it clear that our work is relevant to many students and staff, not only those who are religious. Additionally ‘chaplaincy’ doesn’t translate into International English and is not that well understood as a concept in UK English either.
This coincides with the move to launch a university wide inclusion strategy for this important aspect of people’s identity, which so often intersects with other aspects of identity too. We will be gradually rolling out the name change over the 2022-23 academic year, changing signage, print and electronic communications.
Listening Ear Service
Anyone can book in for one-to-one listening with one of our staff experienced in pastoral care. We can usually offer a time to meet within 5 working days. Email bnbr-life@sheffield.ac.uk to ask for a meeting.
Self Supporting Anglican Chaplain
An exciting opportunity has arisen in The Belief, No Belief & Religious (BNBR) Life Centre at The University of Sheffield and ordained self-supporting Anglican clergy are invited to apply for the position of Anglican Chaplain.
