“This course was my destination because as a dental technician I was looking to improve my skills and gain new knowledge by studying at one of the most prestigious institutions in the world”, explains Rayan Binduhayyim, from Saudi Arabia. “I knew this course would help me to go further in my career.”

“I was able to work closely with professional individuals and have the chance to communicate with them to improve my understanding of the new techniques and the materials they use”, he recalls. “Furthermore, it was a chance for me to gain more knowledge regarding the research methods in clinical dentistry and how to critically analyse the work of others.”

“After graduation, I applied for a PhD in bioactive glass at the School of Clinical Dentistry and I am now in my second year. I give credit to my MSc in Dental Technology which opened different opportunities for me and let me have the chance to improve my research abilities and be a PhD candidate.”

Rayan now plans to return to Saudi Arabia, to follow in his mother’s footsteps. “My mother was a teacher, and her passion and detection to this great profession influenced me. Year by year at university, my interest has grown in teaching career.”

“I’m planning to finish my PhD and go back to my home country to have the opportunity to spread the knowledge I have acquired here to improve the quality of education and research. That will help me to take the dental materials in my country to another level and to start teaching the Saudi students about this important part of dentistry as we lack the national competencies in this field. I want to be one of the influencers in academia and contribute to both local and global societies.”
