Becoming President of EEE Soc allowed me to put my ideas into action.

Ellie chose to study with EEE due to her interest in how electronics in computer systems work and in her third year was elected as President of the department's student society EEE Soc.

I originally found a love for electronics through Physics and Computer Science at A-Level, but I became more interested in how the electronics that powered computer systems work. This quickly led me to Personal projects using Arduino and Raspberry Pi’s and then I realised that I could do a degree in electronics, so I did, and now I can’t imagine doing anything else.

After being the Inclusions Officer for EEE Soc in 2019/20, I realised that I wanted to have more of a leading role in the Society so that I could act on the ideas that I had to provide more interaction with the society to the members. For me, the Society’s social nights and trips have been a great way to meet people from the course, especially people in different years.

COVID-19 permitting, I’d like to be able to organise trips to showcase the different areas of engineering that EEE students could go into. I’d also like to throw social events for the members of the society such as paintballing and pub crawls, but as social restrictions are in effect, I’d like to provide more online social activities such as quizzes and gaming nights.

The academic trips and seminars that the society usually does have always helped me get a better insight into different career opportunities and have really helped me to decide what area of EEE I want to go into.
