EEE Academic Achievement Scholarships - Home students

Scholarships of £2,000 will be awarded in recognition of academic excellence to students starting an undergraduate honours degree programme in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering in 2024. Students will receive a further £1000 upon successful attainment of a 70% average at the end of the first year.

The scholarship will be awarded automatically – no application is required. The £2000 scholarship will be processed in October 2024. You do not need to apply. The £1000 payment will be processed in October 2025, following confirmation of your first year grade average.

To be eligible for an academic achievement scholarship you must:

  • Attain A level grades of A*AA or above (equivalent performance in alternative qualifications will also be considered)
  • Have made The University of Sheffield, Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering, your first (firm) choice in the UCAS application process
  • Commence your first year undergraduate studies in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering in 2024
  • Be from the UK (not be classed as an overseas student for tuition fee purposes)
Engineering Excellence Scholarship - Overseas students
 
 
We are offering scholarship awards to international, undergraduate students with established and continued academic excellence.

The scholarship will be awarded to international undergraduate students who exceed the academic conditions of our standard UCAS offer. Candidates who attain A level grades of A*AA or above (or the equivalent qualification in your country) will receive the Excellence Scholarship.

To be eligible for an Excellence Scholarship you must:

  • make The University of Sheffield your first (firm) choice in the UCAS application process for 2024 entry
  • be an undergraduate student be classed as an international student for tuition fee purposes
  • be taking all prerequisite subjects for your selected degree

We will offer the scholarship in the form of a cash bursary at the start of your course should you be eligible.  The scholarship amount is dependent on your academic achievement:  A*AA - £1000, A*A*A - £2000 and A*A*A* - £3000. Equivalent qualifications can be found here.

If you join us directly in year 2, please contact our School to discuss your eligibility for the scholarship.         

Further details:

  • The scholarship will be awarded automatically – no application is required in the first or any subsequent years.
  • Receipt of the scholarship in subsequent years of study is subject to you achieving 70% overall average mark in the previous academic year. The scholarship will be withdrawn if you fail to achieve 70% and it will not be reinstated in the following year.
  • You will not receive the scholarship during any optional or compulsory study abroad periods or year in industry.
  • Students taking the University of Sheffield International College pathway program are not eligible for the scholarship.
  • The scholarship can be awarded in conjunction with other University of Sheffield scholarships as long as the individual does not become fully funded for tuition fee purposes, as a result of the sum of these awards.
Excellence Scholarship for NCUK 2nd-year direct entry - Overseas students

The scholarship will be awarded automatically to overseas fee status undergraduate students who exceed the academic conditions of our standard UCAS offer.

Anne Bainbridge Scholarships - Female students

Anne Bainbridge was the first female graduate of the Department in 1963 and is passionate about the opportunities that careers in Engineering and Science can offer. 

To continue the legacy left by Anne, the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering is offering Scholarships of up to £2,000 to female students who achieve the published academic requirements and commence their first year of undergraduate studies with us in 2024. Women are currently under-represented in Engineering generally, and our aim is to redress this imbalance in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. 

To be eligible for a one-off payment of £2,000, a female student must:

  • Be accepted onto an EEE programme with A-level grades of AAA (equivalent performance in an alternative qualification will be considered)
  • Have made The University of Sheffield, Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering, your first (firm) choice in the UCAS application process
  • Commence your first year of undergraduate studies in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering in 2024 (either as a First Year student or as a Direct Entry Second Year student).  

To be eligible for a one-off payment of £1,000, a female student must:

  • Be accepted onto an EEE programme with A-level grades of AAB (equivalent performance in an alternative qualification will be considered)
  • Have made The University of Sheffield, Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering, your first (firm) choice in the UCAS application process
  • Commence your first year of undergraduate studies in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering in 2024 (either as a First Year student or as a Direct Entry Second Year student).  

The scholarship will be awarded automatically – no application is required. The awards will be processed in October 2024 and are in addition to other scholarships currently advertised for Home and Overseas students for 2024 entry.

Thomas Walker Scholarship - Mature students

This scholarship was established in the memory of Thomas Walker (BEng 1931, MEng 1933) thanks to a generous legacy from the estate of his late wife Mrs Daisy Eveline Walker.

The scholarship is intended to assist a mature student to return to education to study for a degree in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering.  The scholarship will provide a stipend of £3,000 per year for each year of the degree programme.  For the purposes of this scholarship, a mature student is defined by the University as any student who is over the age of 21 on entry.  We would particularly welcome applications from individuals with dependants and/or caring responsibilities.

One scholarship will be awarded each year. For students commencing their studies in September 2024, the application deadline is 21st June 2024 and applicants will be informed of the outcome by 18 August 2024.

To apply please contact our School to discuss your eligibility for the scholarship, including a covering letter, and your application number as a reference, briefly addressing (no more than 600 words) the following:

  • Some background to your eligibility for the scholarship.
  • Why you are applying for the scholarship.
  • What you think would make you the best candidate to receive the scholarship.
  • What receiving the scholarship would mean in terms of your ability to engage with and excel in your chosen course.
  • Any other pertinent information that you feel would strengthen your case in a competitive process.
UK Electronics Skills Foundation (UKESF) Scholarships - Home students

The UKESF encourages young people to study Electronics and pursue careers in the sector. They also connect the most capable Electronics students at top UK universities with leading employers.

Students studying for an Electronics degree can apply to the UKESF for bursaries and work placements. The bursaries are £1,000 /year and the paid work placements are for either summer work and/or for a whole year. Many leading electronics design companies are involved in the scheme including: ARM, Dialog Semiconductor, Imagination Technologies, Leonardo, Renesas, Rolls-Royce, Socionext and Thales. Students can apply in any year of their course (except final year). The scheme is open to home students. First years need to have 3As at A-level or equivalent, second and third years need to have achieved at least a 2.1 classification in their end of year examinations.
