Due to the ongoing global pandemic the University had no choice but to postpone its July 2020 graduation ceremonies.
Graduation is an important part of the university experience, and these ceremonies will be rescheduled. All students will be given the opportunity to graduate in person at a future date. Students from the class of 2020 will be informed of the new dates for our graduation ceremonies when they become available.
The coronavirus pandemic unfortunately forced us to cancel the graduation ceremonies we had planned for January 2021. However, we are delighted to now confirm that you will be officially conferred your University of Sheffield degree on 11 January 2021. We would like to invite you to join us on that day for a virtual celebration to mark your achievements.
We know that this is not the graduation anyone expected this year, but we are excited and extremely proud to be able to celebrate your success, albeit remotely, with you on 11 January.
Please be assured that this does not mean that you will not have an opportunity to attend a physical event to mark your graduation and celebrate with your family and friends. You will be contacted regarding any future event as and when we are safely able to do so.
However, following recent government advice and with restrictions expected to be in place for some time, we may not be in a position to confirm any such plans until Spring 2021 at the earliest.
In absentia conferments
In absentia ceremonies enable students who complete their studies outside of the graduation ceremony periods to have their degree conferred and receive their degree certificate.
Becoming an alumni
After your graduation you are welcomed into our family of more than 190,000 alumni. Find out how you can keep in touch with the University of Sheffield and our alumni benefits.
