Annual Work Experience Placement 2019 - Week Two

On the first day of the second week we got to try some 3-D printing with Alex Bolger. First we modified existing 3d-printing model files and printed sculptures and then we programmed our own customised ones.

Y10 students on work experience.

It was really cool to see the machine make our designs, even though they took a couple hours. By the end they turned out really well and looks exactly how we wanted them to.

On the second day we were set a task to conduct interviews, transcribe them and analyse the data. We ask questions like What makes a good doctor?, How do you feel about your smile?, and How well do you know about Oral Hygiene?
The things we found out from each other were unexpected but also really useful.

On Wednesday we were allowed to listen to a lecture in the lecture theatre by two PhD students. One was on Cell Research and the other on Dental Care for disabled children.  We also carried on with our social media research and helped find ways to help advertise for the dental school.

Thursday, allowed us to extract our own DNA and run PCR analysis to show this. We then looked for a specific sections to see if we would be prone to gum-disease.

This experience has been really useful for us and given us an insight into the world of research behind Dentistry.
It was really fun to see different experiments and use the all the advanced equipment.
Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and made the time we spent there really fun.

We want to thank everyone there for making the Work Experience such a great time.
