Gaby Sklar

After graduating with a degree in Aerospace Engineering, I moved to Sheffield and I joined MEE as an assistant technician in 2022.

Now, I’m the technician supporting Co-Curricular Activities and projects. I provide practical advice and support to student lead projects. I also oversee the Composites Room in iTEC, where students can layup carbon fibre prepreg, vacuum bag and cure it, to create bespoke carbon fibre parts for their projects.

This is quite a wide ranging job, and has so far involved: helping Project Sunride use the iForge water jet cutter to create carbon fibre rocket parts; helping Sheffield Eco Motorsport purchase a few hundred solar cells for their solar powered car; and working out the best way to have ~170kg of steel delivered to a University workshop. It’s great to work with creative and motivated students, and seeing the range of projects that they are working together towards is inspiring.
