Library services for visitors
Welcome to The University of Sheffield Library!
As a major contributor to the overall network of information and Library services in the Sheffield area, the University Library welcomes those outside the University who have a genuine need to use materials and services not available in other local libraries.
All visitors to Western Bank Library are required to apply for an External Borrower Ucard (fees may be charged) or an External Reader Ucard. Please click on the relevant link under access and membership details below.
If you visit Western Bank Library in person before making an online application, a temporary library card (valid for 3 weeks) can be issued while your application for a Ucard is processed.
You will need to bring photo ID and proof of date of birth with you. Please note: visitors aged 17 or under can apply for a temporary library card if your date of birth is on or before 31/08/2001. Visitors born after this date can only enter if accompanied by a responsible adult.
If visiting The Health Sciences Library, Royal Hallamshire Hospital, a day pass may be obtained for the day.
Please note, borrower membership of the library is restricted to persons over the age of 18. Post-16 students must first register as External Readers and parental consent will be required prior to registration. (Children under the age of 16 are only allowed entry during staffed hours and must be accompanied by a responsible adult)
