Chemistry Mass Spectrometry Facility

A specialised service utilising state-of-the-art mass spectrometry to accelerate the analysis of organic and inorganic compouds in your research.

In chemMS, we can analyse relatively complex mixtures and pure organic compounds with liquid or gas chromatography, direct infusion, Atmospheric Solids Analysis Probe (ASAP) and MALDI coupled to mass spectrometers. Inductively coupled plasma (ICP)-based techniques are utilised to determine elemental ratios and analyse inorganic species.

Examples of applications are, but not limited to:

Organics

Molecular weight determination:

  • Low to medium molecular weight organic compounds
  • Protein mutation validation
  • Covalent ligand binding

Quantification/qualification:

  • Kinetic studies
  • Isomer characterisation

Inorganics

Metallodrugs:

  • Characterisation
  • Cellular/organ distribution
  • Metabolism analysis

Metal accumulation/chelation therapies:

  • Cancer research
  • Neurological disorders
  • Chronic kidney disease
