Panos Nanos and Harry Pickard voted top for teaching by students
Economics students have voted Dr Panos Nanos as the best economics lecturer and PhD student Harry Pickard as the best economics postgraduate tutor for 2015-2016.
The annual awards organised by the department’s undergraduate Student Staff Forum are given to the lecturer and tutor that students find the most engaging and can explain the complex areas of the syllabus.
This is the first time that Panos has won the award since joining the Department of Economics in 2014. He was the clear winner of the online poll, receiving 51 of the 202 votes cast.
He said “I’m delighted to be voted the best economics lecturer for this academic year and it’s very satisfying to know that the students think I’m doing a good job."
Harry Pickard is a PhD student but also teaches first year undergraduate students in tutorial sessions.
Harry said “I’m very proud to win this award. Tutorials are really important for the students because in these small group sessions they can apply their understanding from the lectures to specific exercises and really get to grips with the important economic techniques.”
The awards will be presented at the Department of Economics lunch and prize-giving on Friday 22 July 2016 along with the prizes awarded to the outstanding economics students.
