Undergraduate degrees in Economics

Practical economics. Real impact.

We’re one of the few stand alone economics departments in the north of England and we're not part of a large business school.

We’re big enough to offer a wide variety of optional specialised modules, but small enough so that you will get to know your tutors personally and build life-long friendships with the other students on your course. We aim to welcome approx 250 undergraduate students each year.

There are also plenty of opportunities to meet with your tutors if you want advice on how to work through a problem or assignment.

Work placements

We offer you the chance to do a year-long work placement, starting after your second year.

This is a great opportunity to get paid work experience with some of the UK’s top economics employers, including the Bank of England, IBM, Lloyds Bank and Volkswagen.

We want to see our students gain international experience by studying at our partner universities. You can study for a semester or a full year through the European Erasmus+ scheme or a full year with Study Abroad.

You can keep your degree as three years by studying abroad for your second year, or do a four year degree, study abroad for your third year and return to Sheffield for your fourth year.
