A big welcome to potential applicants who find themselves on this page!

I am currently the Department Manager in Philosophy. I’ve been working at the University since 2012 in a variety of positions including Deputy Faculty Director of Operations in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Executive Education Manager in the Management School and previously, roles in education quality and enhancement, predominantly working with departments across the Faculty of Social Sciences. My current role involves working across the Philosophy Department to manage the professional services functions including student support, finance, HR, research support and marketing. I hold a key role in the Department’s executive leadership team, articulating and operationalising strategic plans and providing wide-ranging support to the Head of Department.

I love working in this Department! I am inspired by the work that is happening around me; the educating of the philosophers of tomorrow, the research that tackles globally significant issues and above all, the way in which we all work together to do new and creative things each year. There is a sense of continuous improvement, and our students play a very key role in this. In my opinion, the Philosophy Department at Sheffield is one that thrives on a culture of respect, compassion and collegiality.  Working in this department is very special and I’m sure my colleagues would also tell you the same thing!

If you are a member of Professional Service staff looking to work at Sheffield, then one of the great things about working at a large and complex organisation like the University is the range of services it offers and the people you get to work with. I have had the opportunity to work with colleagues who are passionate about what they do, with such varied perspectives and skill sets. During my time at the University, I’ve worked with others to develop new innovative programmes, improve the student experience, support leading research projects and sometimes, just try to help fix things that might not work too well. I’m sure I learn something everyday!
