Students from the Department of Economics were given the opportunity to meet with Sheffield economics alumni to hear about their career paths and to share helpful advice.

Over 30 economics students came to the Economics Speed Networking event on 19 February and in small groups had around 15 minutes to ask questions about their career and advice from sectors they had worked in.

The economics alumni volunteered their time to participate in the event, coming from around Sheffield but also from Manchester and London.

They all had different roles and were from different sectors and had a range of experiences from early career to experienced managers. The alumni that shared their experiences were:

The event not only helped students with careers advice, but it also gave them an introduction to networking. Claire Conway from the University's Careers Service gave an overview of how networking can be an effective skill to help build connections and relationships in an informal way.
