500 Christmas trees recycled for compost by Landscape Team

Christmas tree chipping

The University’s Landscape Team were busy last week collecting old Christmas trees.

Staff, students and local residents were invited to bring their unwanted trees to the Information Commons car park. The team collected and chipped approximately 500 Christmas trees!

7 million natural Christmas trees end up in landfill every year and release huge amounts of greenhouse gases.

By chipping the trees, the landscape team will go on to use them as compost, keeping soil moist and healthy, and reducing weed growth.
