Why study health at Sheffield?

Studying health is about more than just getting a qualification, it’s about preparing for a career where you’ll make a genuine difference to people’s lives. At Sheffield, we’ll help you build the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in a healthcare environment from your very first day.

Whether you're passionate about Medicine, Nursing, Speech and Language Therapy, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Orthoptics or another health related subject, our courses are designed to blend real clinical experience with research led teaching.

You'll learn in supportive, hands-on settings working with patients and professionals in ways that reflect real world healthcare.

What makes Sheffield the right choice?

Learn from real patients from day one

Our teaching isn’t just classroom based. From the start of your degree, you'll be learning through real-life experience. Through our Patients as Educators programme, you’ll work directly with people who’ve volunteered to help train future healthcare professionals. You’ll develop essential communication, decision-making and physical assessment skills, all in a safe, supportive setting.

Facilities that reflect real healthcare settings

We’ve invested in some of the best learning environments in the country, including:

  • Our Clinical Skills Centre, where you can practise key procedures in realistic hospital style surroundings
  • A fully equipped Speech and Language Therapy Clinic
  • Newly refurbished Dental School facilities
  • Labs and simulation equipment, including virtual reality, to help you prepare for placements and clinical work
  • We’ve recently invested in Anatomage tables, one of the most advanced 3D anatomy visualisation tools available

Research-led teaching

You'll be taught by experienced clinicians and active researchers. This means the content you study is directly informed by the latest developments in healthcare – not just what’s in the textbooks.

Placements that prepare you for the real world

All of our health-related degrees include placements so you can get real-world experience within healthcare. Whether you spend time in hospitals, GP practice, community health teams or specialist services,  you’ll graduate with experience that employers value and the confidence that comes from real clinical practice.

Social accountability placements

We believe healthcare should benefit everyone. That’s why we offer placements that let you work in underserved or marginalised communities – so you can understand the broader impact of health and wellbeing, and play a part in addressing health inequalities.

To understand what it means to be a socially accountable doctor, our medical students have the opportunity to complete a unique four week placement with one of our community partners.

A community that supports you

Being part of Sheffield means being part of a vibrant, diverse student community. You'll have access to student societies, support networks, wellbeing services and opportunities to get involved – inside and outside of your course.
