Professor Stewart Smyth becomes the president of the British Accounting and Finance Association

On 1 May 2022, Professor Stewart Smyth has taken on the role of President for the British Accounting and Finance Association.

On 1 May 2022, Professor Stewart Smyth has taken on the role of President for the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA). BAFA is the learned society for accounting and finance academics in Britain. BAFA has roots going back to the late 1940s and in its current form is a registered charity run by a board of executive and non-executive trustees.

BAFA has over 700 active members and a contact list that runs to several thousand. BAFA is responsible for the publication of the British Accounting Review, a long established and highly respected academic journal. BAFA works closely with other international and domestic learned societies, including the European Accounting Association (EAA), the American Accounting Association (AAA), the British Academy and the Academy of Social Sciences.

Professor Smyth, who holds a Chair in Accounting at Sheffield University Management, will hold the role for two years until April 2024.
