Over 5 weeks, postgraduate students have been taking part in Global Masters Challenge, a business simulation where students take part in a series of heats, competing against 360 students in 72 teams from 21 universities.

This culminated in two Sheffield teams, both made up of The Sheffield MBA students, making it all the way to the final which took place on Friday at the University of Southampton Business School. The students’ knowledge and skills were tested in various ways including a business start up simulation, tasks around the UN Sustainable Goals and finally an innovation task around developing and branding a new luxury sustainable brand. This is very much in line with the Management School’s value of being socially responsible, equipping students to use their skills in their future careers to have a positive impact on working lives, organisations and societies worldwide.

The winning team consisted of Devanshu Gupta, Lauren Bartlett, Mohd (Md) Suhail and Feroz Mohammad, who were crowned the Champions of the Global Masters Challenge 2024. The team was ranked 1000 points above the other participants which is a significant achievement.

Our other finalists, Neha Kumari, Shatavisa Samaddar and Oshnika Thakur, also finished within the top ten. Both teams of finalists have admirably supported and cheered on each other throughout the whole process. It is a true testament to the work that has been done recently to build a strong student community Sheffield University Management School.

We encourage our talented students to rise to the challenge and take part in these global challenges. They offer a chance to build networks, exchange ideas and engage peers. We were delighted to have two teams represent Sheffield University Management School and are thrilled that one team took first place. The achievements of both teams are a testament to their collective ability to grow and excel. We are incredibly proud of them.

Winning the Global Masters Challenge is not only a fantastic achievement for the students, but an achievement the wider University community are extremely proud of. Many staff members, both academic and professional services, across the School have played vital roles in supporting the students to apply their knowledge and skills in such a way that they beat the other universities taking part.

We look forward to hosting next year’s Global Masters Challenge in Sheffield and welcoming students from across the nation for this valuable learning and networking opportunity.
