- Profile
-
Maria is a Doctoral researcher at Sheffield University Management School and the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. During her BSc Chemical Engineer, Maria developed a growing interest in sustainability and renewable energy that she was able to apply by doing an internship within the Department of Chemistry and Renewable Energy, Catalysis and Petrochemical Institute (CSIC) in Spain. Through her MSc, Maria developed a deep understanding of renewable energies and energy storage system that she is implementing into a new discipline for her, the logistics and transport sector. Her current research aims to examine the feasibility of using localised solar energy generation and storage for EV fleet vehicle charging within the freight transport sector. This research is supervised by Dr Erica Ballantyne (Logistics & Supply Chain Research Centre) and Professor David Stone (Centre for Research into Electrical Energy Storage and Applications).
- Qualifications
-
- BSc, Chemical Engineering, Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (Spain)
- MSc, Chemical Engineering, University of the West of Scotland (UWS)
- Research interests
-
Maria is an inter-disciplinary researcher whose interests lie in the fields of logistics decarbonisation and renewable energies. She is particularly interested in finding solutions for an efficient and sustainable freight transport. In her doctoral research, she is exploring the potential of using renewable energies (i.e. solar energy) and battery energy storage systems (BESS) in facilitating the integration of electric vehicles fleets in the freight transport sector.

Maria is participating in several projects with industry. The motivation behind these projects is to help companies to understand their energy usage and find solutions to reduce electricity cost and GHG emissions within their operational and logistics constraints. These involve case studies that explore the benefits of using BESS to increase flexibility and control when it comes to energy management while facilitating the integration of renewable energies and EV fleets.
