Regather has been chosen as one of three organisations shortlisted for a 2023 BBC Food & Farming Award in the ‘Farming the Future’ category.

The Regather team

We’re delighted that Regather, one of our local partner organisations, is one of three organisations shortlisted for a 2023 BBC Food & Farming Award in the ‘Farming the Future’ category. This category celebrates farmers who are embracing new growing solutions to benefit the environment, exploring new ways to make good food accessible, and developing sustainable strategies to inspire the next generation of producers.

Read about our partnership

Regather’s veg box scheme has been supplying residents of Sheffield with the very best organic and local produce since 2012, and continues to go from strength to strength. In recent years Regather has established its own farm in the Moss Valley, which now supplies box customers with a range of seasonal fruit, vegetables and flowers.

However, food production and distribution is just one branch of Regather’s activity. The Cooperative’s work also encompasses a number of city-wide projects, campaigns and partnerships ranging from community gardening to collaboration with leading academics.

Gareth Roberts, Regather founder member and co-director, said: “The reason we are on the shortlist is because we not only grow food, but also contribute to the development of local food infrastructure through our research work. This research is carried out in partnership with both the Institute for Sustainable Food and the South Yorkshire Sustainability Centre.”

Professor Peter Jackson, co-Director of the Institute for Sustainable Food at the University of Sheffield, said: “I'm delighted that Regather has been shortlisted for a Food and Farming award. Regather have partnered with us on several research projects and we share their commitment to the development of a healthier and more sustainable food system. Well done to Gareth and the team!'

Fran Halsall, Regather Garden Services Manager and Research Associate, said: “The nomination recognises all the work we do and our campaigning for fairer access to a food system that is more accountable and sustainable for years to come.

It’s amazing news for us here at Regather and we feel incredibly proud to have been shortlisted for such a prestigious, national award.”

Regather wishes to thank all their customers, staff and volunteers for their continued support.
