Industrial Placement Year

In the past three years, over 1000 engineering students have completed an industrial placement and we have a dedicated team who work alongside the academic schools and the Careers Service to provide advice and support for all students undertaking the Industrial Placement Year.

What are the benefits of an industrial placement year?

An Industrial Placement Year gives you the opportunity to maximise your employability by spending a year in a graduate-level role at an engineering company. You will  gain real-world experience, develop professional skills, and build a network that will significantly boost your job prospects after graduation. Many companies often offer returning roles or graduate schemes to successful placement students.

You will also have the opportunity to develop practical skills such as applying academic knowledge in a professional setting, learning industry-specific tools and techniques, and developing essential soft skills like teamwork and communication.1

Our dedicated team supports students and employers throughout the application process and during the placement year and each year, we see over 300 engineering students successfully complete their placement.

Student experience

Each year, we see over 200 engineering students successfully complete their Industrial Placement Year, with each of them having a unique and exciting experience that can help them in the next stage of their learning or their future career.

Many of our students don't just gain invaluable experience during their placements; they often secure full-time employment with their placement companies after graduating! You can dive deeper into their personal journeys and see the tangible impact of these experiences by exploring their stories on our profiles page.
