Dr Hannah Guy

Hannah completed her PhD at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2022, examining the role of images in the spread of disinformation on social media. This project was funded through an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Collaborative Doctoral Award in partnership with First Draft.

After completing her PhD, she worked as a Research Associate for a Horizon Europe-funded project in the Department of Sociological Studies at the University of Sheffield. This project examined online gender-based radicalising in a UK context. During this role, Hannah also gained experience teaching and supervising both undergraduate and postgraduate Sociology students. She has also previously worked in industry as a data/social media insight analyst. Her research interests include digital research methods, digital sociology, online visual cultures, and disinformation. 

Hannah is a member of the Visual Social Media Lab, which brings together a group of internationally leading interdisciplinary researchers from academia and industry interested in analysing social media images.
