Amritha has shown a passion for supporting the mental and emotional well-being of others during her time at Sheffield.

Supporting wellbeing

After participating in the Sheffield Mind Mentally Healthy Universities Programme, Amritha provided 63 hours of one-to-one empathetic and active listening support at HearMe, an emotional wellness platform. She’s now progressed to become an Intern Buddy, helping to support new listeners.

Amritha also contributed to the life of the University through her charitable fundraising activities. She completed the ‘310,000 Steps in May’ challenge for the Anthony Nolan charity, raising money to support people with blood cancer. She also took part in the ‘100 Miles in a Month - August 2021’ challenge in support of The Mater Foundation which supports patient care in the Mater Public Hospital.

Community leadership

Amritha was successfully elected as a Sheffield NUS National Conference Delegate, which enabled her to discuss issues that matter to Sheffield students and to contribute an influential voice on a national scale.

She also supported her peers locally through her role as a Student Academic Representative and secured a place on the ‘Mindset Matters Leadership Series’ with an external leadership consultancy.

An enterprising individual

Amritha undertook a part-time Sales Consultant role at Next as well as part-time jobs in warehouse operations and logistics with Menzies Distribution, FPS Distribution, and Sports Direct, where she experienced how retail and supply chains work in the UK. Amritha connected her fellow students with her employers in order to aid their research, and she shared her experiences with one of our postgraduate researchers to support their research into the working conditions of logistics laborers.

Before completing her year, she secured places in two different summer work experience roles - one as a Programme Review Assistant and another as a Project Manager. Amritha chose to undertake the summer work placement on campus as a Project Manager in the  Department of Economics, enabling her to gain valuable real-world management experience.

Since completing her degree, Amritha spent a short time working at First Group plc before joining Push Technology to become an Application Specialist.
