Weston Park May Fayre will take place on Sunday 22th May this year. This city event organised by Sheffield City Council in collaboration with the University of Sheffield Library's National Fairground Archive, is bringing live music, fairground entertainment and many other displays and activities to the heart of the community once more between 11.00am and 5.00pm.
The National Fairground Archive will bring a representation of its key collections including rarely seen film archive. We are also proud to have partnered up with the Festival of Arts and Humanities, who will be screening our award winning documentary 'The Show of Shows: 100 Years of Vaudeville, Circuses and Carnivals' at 7.00pm in the Auditorium of Sheffield University's Students' Union. This event is free but booking is recommended www.sheffield.ac.uk/festivalah/2016/show-of-shows.
'The Show of Shows' is a collaboration between the National Fairground Archive and Saga Films. Directed by Benedikt Erlingsson, this documentary is a window into the history of circus, fairground shows and vaudeville during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Show of Shows looks at the story of early travelling entertainment, showcasing circus performers, cabaret acts and fairground attractions. Copies of the film will be available to purchase from our tent on the day.
