We are pleased to announce that Prof. Richard Bentall has been elected a member of the Academia Europaea. The aim of the Academy is to promote European research, advise governments and international organisations in scientific matters, and further interdisciplinary and international research.

Membership to the Academia Europaea is by invitation only, based on a rigorous peer review process. Existing members nominate individuals, and these nominations are then scrutinised by their peers.

Being elected as a full member of the Academia Europaea is a prestigious honor awarded to individuals who demonstrate sustained academic excellence. It is a recognition of one's contributions to European research and scholarship.

“I’m very honoured to be invited to be part of this trans-European academic community. It is recognition of the work done over many years, not just by me but in collaboration with many fantastic colleagues, which has demonstrated the important role of traumatic experiences in causing severe mental illness, and which has led to new psychological therapies for people with diagnoses such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.” Prof. Richard Bentall
