Degree: MSc(Res) Cognitive Neuroscience and Human Neuroimaging
Georgia initially came to Sheffield to study BSc Psychology which gave her the perfect foundation to progress onto a masters in the department. On completion of her MSc(Res) Cognitive Neuroscience and Human Neuroimaging course, Georgia hopes to pursue a PhD in neuroscience.
"My BSc in Psychology here at the University of Sheffield gave me the perfect foundation for the MSc(Res) in Cognitive Neuroscience and Human Neuroimaging. This course comprises both medicine and psychology modules which allowed me to learn about the brain from both a medical and psychological stand point; in addition to learning about the physics behind the neuroimaging techniques themselves.
"What I love most about this course is that it goes above and beyond the essential hands on experiences to prime you for a PhD or a career in research, presenting you with a range of unique opportunities; from giving you access to dissection labs using a real human brain, to a visit to a real life fMRI scanner in the local Hallamshire Hospital, located mere minutes away from the heart of the university. Furthermore, as this course is so small, it encourages the group to really share their ideas, and moulds the teaching to a more personal level.
"On completion of this masters, I hope to continue my education to study a PhD in neuroscience to further hone my research skills, and prep me for a career in the research industry. I would ideally like to further close the gap between the domains of Psychology and Medicine; focusing on the fundamental neurological causes of anxiety and depression, and working to improve available therapies that are both effective and economical."
