Outreach goes online

image of outreach websiteThe University of Sheffield Outreach and Widening Participation team are further developing their digital presence this year with the launch of our new online application system for longer term sustained outreach programmes such as Discover Us and SOAMS (Sheffield’s Outreach and Access to Medicine Scheme).

The online application process will not only make it quicker to process applications, but will also let teachers monitor the progress of applications in real time as well as submitting information directly to the system – cutting out postage and paperwork.

If you have not yet registered as a school, please contact heat@sheffield.ac.uk. For schools who have registered, guidance about how to complete the application form can be found on online. For Pre16 (11-16) please visit www.sheffield.ac.uk/schools/outreach-programmes/pre16 and for Post16 (16-18) please visit www.sheffield.ac.uk/schools/outreach-programmes/post16

Kimberley Simms (Outreach Officer - Data and Communications) said:

'We’ve worked closely with teachers to develop the online application form and are looking forward to making the process of recruiting students and reviewing applications more streamlined and an easier experience for all involved.'

The team have also been working on a number of video projects that aim to showcase the wide variety of programmes offered, provide an insight into the experiences of our participants, and highlight the important relationships we have with schools and colleges.

The Outreach and Widening Participation website will also be undergoing a significant restructure over the next few months. This work will feature regular news and activity updates and make it easier for teachers and advisers to find information.

If you or your pupils like Twitter and blogs, the @SheffOutreach Twitter account will showcase the range of activities throughout the year and the new University of Sheffield Outreach blog will regularly feature articles and information from participants, our own students and also staff.

We would love some feedback on these new ways of communicating with you, so please check out the new pages and blog, send us a Tweet or an email by 27th October 2016 and the most original response will win a £20 Amazon voucher.
