Professor Bhavani Shankar joins the Institute for Sustainable Food

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Bhavani Shankar as a Professorial Research Fellow at the Institute for Sustainable Food

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Bhavani Shankar to a Professorial Research Fellow at the Institute for Sustainable Food, funded by the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Bhavani Shankar has been Professor of International Agriculture, Food and Health at SOAS since 2011 where he has also served as Research Director for the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Director of the Centre for Development. Environment and Policy.

He has held research grants from the Gates Foundation, the Wellcome Trust, UKRI's Global Challenges Research Fund and the Department for International Development.  Recent publications include papers in Food Policy, Global Food Security, Public Health Nutrition, British Medical Journal and World Development. 

His post is research-focused for the first three years before transitioning to a standard professorship in the Department of Geography.
