Want to live a longer, healthier life? Join Dr Mirre Simons to explore the science of ageing. In this taster session, we'll uncover how understanding ageing could be the key to tackling age-related diseases.

Why are we not immortal? The biology of ageing

Ageing is one of the biggest challenges, and opportunities, facing our world.

During ageing, all physiology breaks down in an unpredictable way. But does this mean we’ll never be able to understand the mechanisms of ageing and extend our lifespan? Or could it mean that treating ageing will cure many age-related diseases at the same time?

This taster session will be led by Dr Mirre Simons, a leading researcher in the field of ageing. We’ll cover the biology of ageing and give you the chance to learn about the recent progress that’s been made in understanding the science of ageing from both an evolutionary and biomedical perspective.

This session is suitable for students in years 12 and 13.
