Tom holds an Engineering Doctorate (EngD) in Intelligent Systems from The University of Sheffield, a Master of Science (MSc) in Manufacturing Engineering and Management from The University of Nottingham and a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Mechanical Engineering from Manchester Metropolitan University.

Tom is an advocate for digital engineering and the Industrie 4.0 paradigm, with over 10 years of experience spanning design, manufacturing, software and systems engineering. Prior to joining BAE Systems, Tom held diverse roles across research and digital transformation – including associations with Rolls-Royce, Safran Landing Systems, Sheffield Forgemasters, Gripple, DB Cargo, Technicut and the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), amongst others.

Tom's current role involves leading digital systems engineering research across BAE Systems Submarines, with particular interest in intelligent Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) for both operational applications and platforms, as well as research into emerging techniques in executable, ontological Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
