Fresh from organising the 10th International Granulation Workshop in Sheffield, 11 members of the University of Sheffield’s Particle Product Group (PPG) shared their work with colleagues from both industry and academia at the PARTEC 2023 conference.

Members of PPG travelled to the city of Nuremberg to attend the conference, which occurs every 3 years and is one of the world’s most prominent conferences on Particle Technology.

The theme for the 2023 iteration was the application of ‘Particle Technology for Sustainable Products’. Attendees also got the opportunity to visit the POWTECH exhibition fair which occurred in parallel to PARTEC.

POWTECH is the International Processing Trade Fair for Powder, Bulk Solids, Fluids and Liquids which attracts hundreds of exhibitors from all around the globe, giving students a great chance to get insight into what equipment is available for their work and network with potential employers.

The PPG is led by the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering’s Professor Agba Salman.

Members of Sheffield’s PPG group who spoke at PARTEC had the following comments to make about their visit:

Presenting my work to some legends of the Powder Industry and hearing their feedback was a fantastic opportunity for me. I also really enjoyed the chance to go away with my fellow students and do some group bonding in the fantastic city of Nuremberg.

I found PARTEC to be systematic, organized and insightful as always. I had the chance to showcase my work to experts in the field of powder and granulation and it was undeniably a moment of great inspiration in my life.

It was great that the Conference runs alongside of the exhibition. Like that you can chat with equipment suppliers who are really passionate about their products and tell you details about their machines. Plus, Nürnberg and the surroundings are a beautiful place to visit — Servus!

The atmosphere and order in the venue were very good. Everything (PC, microphone and pointer) was well prepared. And as a presenter we knew exactly what to do even for a person who first stood on the stage. By the way, we all enjoyed the food here.

I had the honour of giving my first talk at PARTEC to share my knowledge and experience about ‘The influence of pneumatic conveying system on granule size in a continuous wet granulation line.' I would like to thank the members of the PPG Group for their support and the organizers for such a wonderful conference.
