Profile

I am a graduate of the University of Sheffield, obtaining my BA in English Language & Linguistics in 2009, before beginning what I assured myself would be a temporary position within Estates and Facilities Management at The University that same year. Six years later, seeking a change of career, I joined the Technical Training Programme within The Faculty of Engineering and spent two years in various engineering departments learning a wide variety of technical skills ranging across workshop environments, electronics and chemical laboratories. Throughout this time, I discovered that teaching and demonstrating were my primary interests.

In 2017, I was offered a position within Multidisciplinary Engineering Education (MEE) as an Assistant Teaching Technician in Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, where I worked with, and taught the use of, many different types of manufacturing equipment including laser cutters, 3D printers, lathes, CNC machinery and hand tools.

In 2019, I became the lead technician for the Flight Simulation and Jet Propulsion Laboratories. During my time there I worked closely alongside the Aerospace department to develop the facility towards the changing needs of the undergraduate cohorts, pivoting the emphasis towards drone manufacture and testing.

I became a Senior Teaching Technician in Aerospace, Mechanical and Civil Engineering in October 2021. This position focuses on supervising and providing technical support for the iForge student-led makerspace and the numerous co-curricular activities. I am currently developing the new home for the CCA teams in the iTec facility, ensuring that student teams have a professional facility to work on their manufacturing projects, preferably while keeping all their fingers intact.
