|Understanding and modelling impact wear|

Impact wear occurs in many different engineering components but is often tricky to analyse and subsequently is one of the least studied wear mechanisms. This project will involve carrying out practical experiments, and supporting tribological analyses, to further characterise impact wear. Once this improved understanding is achieved it should be possible to develop and validate new models (semi-empirical, FEA etc.) to accurately predict the results of impact on a component.
