Q.  Will the celebration for my programme (Discover Us, C2BCC, Us in Schools mentoring, Discover) go ahead this year?

While schools remain closed, we will not be holding any Celebration ceremonies.  We appreciate that this will be disappointing for you and where possible we will look to reschedule the celebrations, where it is practical to do so.  Your programme leader will contact you in due course if the event is to be rescheduled.

Q.  How will I get my certificate for completing my Outreach programme?

Your certificate will be posted to you when the Outreach Team return to working as usual from the Office.  If we are able to reschedule ‘Celebration Ceremonies’ they may be presented to you there.  Your Project Leader will let you know in due course how this will work for your specific programme.

All residentials that were due to take place in July 2020 have now been cancelled.

We appreciate that this is very disappointing for you.

We will give full consideration to whether or not it is possible to reschedule the July2020 events to a later stage in the programme, potentially while you are in Year 11.

Your project leader will let you know if this is possible when schools reopen and we are able to discuss options for timetabling with them.

We are considering the option to hold the Post16 Summer Schools during October 2020 Half Term holiday.

Your project leader will let you know if this is possible when Colleges and Post16 providers  reopen and we are able to discuss options for timetabling with them.

Any decision that is made in this respect will of course take into account the current advice that is being provided by The World Health Organisation and will be in line with any direction being given by the Government in respect to ongoing social distancing.

Q. Can I still use Peer Tutoring?

Peer Tutoring

We would encourage you to continue to take advantage of the online one to one Peer Tutoring application to support your continued learning.

It is important that you remain active in undertaking revision, using the previous examination papers that your education providers are issuing to you, as you will still need to understand the principles of your subjects in support of you attaining high grades in your qualifications, ultimately supporting any future applications to universities.

We are increasing the limit of ‘gems’ for each of our students to enable you to maximise this valuable one to one support.

If you require additional ‘gems’ to access or submit work for feedback on the Peer Tutoring application, please send an email to support@peertutor.com and CC tutoring@sheffield.ac.uk into the email.

Q. Will the alternative offer for Discover still be available for 2021 applications to The University, as events have been cancelled?

The University is continuing to follow the advice being given by Public Health England and the Government and will continue to provide information as to whether or not events will be rescheduled in due course.

We are also reviewing what activity can be offered as alternatives to the activities that were planned on campus, through online learning platforms.  Please bear with us as we develop these materials.  We will continue to contact you through email with any opportunities for engagement as they become available.

We would encourage you to continue to take advantage of the Peer Tutoring application.

Please see questions  ‘Can I still use Peer Tutoring’

The University will make appropriate adjustments in assessing student participation in the Discover Programme, with due consideration to the cancellation of events, and/ or participation in the alternative online provision being offered during this period.

We will ensure that every consideration is given to our participants to ensure that the alternative offer can be fairly made and applied for 2021 applications to The University of Sheffield.

It is important that you let the Discover Programme Leader know if you are facing any particular challenges during this period which are limiting your ability to engage with the programme on line please.
