History Prizes

History prizes open to applications from all students!

We are delighted to announce that applications from current students are open for the following History prizes:

Bryan Marsden Prize

Deadline 2020-21: 5pm, Friday 4 December 2020

A sum of £400 will be awarded for the most meritorious proposal submitted by a final-year undergraduate (single or dual honours) or postgraduate student (MA and PhD) to cover necessary expenses for archival research relating to any topic in American history.

Sir Ian Kershaw Prize

Deadline 2020-21: 5pm, Friday 4 December 2020

A single award of up to £600 is available to meet the costs of visiting archives and collections in continental Europe. According to the terms of the fund, applicants must be undertaking research for a PhD on 20th century European history (excluding the history of Britain and Ireland). Applications are welcomed for the support of travel and maintenance costs associated with archival work in languages other than English.

William Carr Prize

Deadline 2020-21: 5pm, Friday 4 December 2020

An award of up to £200 is available to support research on some aspect of the history of German-speaking countries. The recipient of this award is required to produce a short report for the donor on how the award has been used.
