Making the decision to apply

I joined HSBC as a graduate on the graduate scheme and worked for them for 20 years. I lived and worked in Sheffield, the USA, Brazil and Hong Kong. After 20 years in one organisation, I was unsure as to whether the skills I had learnt and developed would be transferable to other industries. The MBA kept coming up in conversation and it seemed like the next correct step in my career.

A Triple Crown accredited Management School in my hometown

Sheffield is my hometown and since I have a family with a daughter still at school, I wanted to study in Sheffield. When I started to research the MBA, I was pleasantly surprised to find that my local university provided an MBA course at a Triple Crown accredited Management School.

Coming back to university after 20 years in the world of work

The course has provided me with a lot of confidence in my skill and knowledge but the enjoyment comes from the new people I have met and am working with. The assignment period was daunting as I had not completed an academic piece of work for over 20 years and now I had seven to complete. Once I had begun my preparation and planned my time and deliverables, I actually enjoyed the process and the fulfilment I received on submission of each assignment. The support has been fantastic. The lecturers, admin staff and even support staff at the Management School have been available and responsive. Sheffield University Management School feels more like an office environment than a university.

I would definitely recommend the Sheffield MBA. It is changing the way I am thinking about myself, my future career and also the way I approach situations - I am loving it!
