I wanted a degree that covered all aspects of business

From the outset of my academic journey, my passion for corporate life has been a driving force. When it came time for university, I wanted a degree that covered all aspects of business that caught my interest. Sheffield stood out as the only place offering exactly what I was looking for. Back in my teenage years, when I had no clue about my career path, this degree just felt like the perfect fit for me.

The prospect of obtaining exemptions adds to the degree's allure

Sheffield University Management School has notable accreditations that caught my attention. The prospect of obtaining exemptions from certain exams upon completing my degree adds to its allure.

Discovering the existence of the Dean's List award has been a motivating factor for me. The opportunity for Management School students to secure a reference from the Dean is particularly prestigious and adds a notable accomplishment to one's academic journey.

The UK's diverse and dynamic culture appealed to me

Opting to study in the UK was a conscious choice driven by its diverse and dynamic culture. Relocating to a new country was a deliberate move to broaden my horizons, and I approached independent living with mental preparation for this significant transition. Prior to my arrival, I had to get ready for potential challenges, including the practical aspects of managing weekly grocery shopping among a demanding study schedule.

A dual degree is rewarding whilst also challenging

A dual degree is undeniably rewarding, but it does present its challenges. Having core modules from both departments often means fewer options for elective courses and longer hours. However, the upside is a deeper understanding of my modules, and the chance to connect with more people, a highly encouraged aspect of university life.

Balancing a diverse range of modules enhanced the importance of refining my time management skills throughout my academic journey. Allocating ample time to each module was crucial for achieving favourable results, while maintaining a well-structured schedule allowed me to enjoy personal free time and engage in activities with friends. Furthermore, scheduling meetings with lecturers not only addressed academic concerns but significantly contributed to the development of my communication skills, fostering confidence over time.

Continuing your hobbies is a great way to connect with others

I lived in university accommodation, sharing flats for quicker connections. As a badminton enthusiast, I quickly joined the Badminton Society, expanding my social circle and earning the honour of women's captain in the same year. I've found that continuing your hobbies from before is a great way to connect with others in the university environment. And if there's something you've never tried, the University of Sheffield is the perfect place to start. No need to worry about lack of experience; there are likely others in the same boat!

The library's support has proved instrumental for my studies

The library provides valuable sessions on referencing and resource searching. Despite not encountering Harvard referencing in my previous studies, I quickly realised its standard importance upon arriving at the University. The library team's sessions offer crucial information that proved instrumental in navigating my studies.

My internship experiences provided invaluable insights into the working world

In my first year, I began applying for internships through various platforms, including our university's Careers Connect. Despite facing rejections and tackling numerous online assessments, landing an offer for an insight program at PwC was a significant win. Following the insight program, I was fortunate to secure a return offer for a summer internship in Digital Audit. These experiences provided invaluable insights into the workings of a consultancy firm and deepened my understanding of the Audit sector.

The highlight of my Sheffield journey was the discovery of my true passion

While I appreciate my overall course, specifying my future direction became essential towards the end. Accounting involves financial and management aspects, while economics delves into micro and macro realms. Recognising the area I genuinely enjoy brought clarity to my direction, making me excited for my path ahead. The modules offered by the departments play a crucial role in helping students clarify their ambitions. Each course provides valuable insights that contribute to shaping students' career paths and aspirations.

The programme ensures a balance exposure to both accounting and financial management and economics

This degree is tailored for those eager to delve into both accounting and financial management, and economics. The programme ensures a balanced exposure to both departments, providing a comprehensive understanding of both courses. As a dual honours student, you might have fewer options, but the trade-off is a solid foundation in both fields. The experience also extends beyond academics, fostering connections with a diverse group of people, aiding in the clarification of your future path.

Entering my final year, I can say that choosing a dual degree has been incredibly rewarding. It allowed me to discover more about myself and refine my interests through hands-on experience. University time, in my view, should serve to illuminate your career choices, and this dual degree has certainly played a significant role in that process for me.
