What made you decide to study your course in Sheffield?

I decided to study in Sheffield because my course requires access to the medical teaching unit. The University of Sheffield’s School of Biosciences has an excellent standard of teaching, and previous MSc Human Anatomy with Education graduates have gone on to find meaningful employment. Furthermore, the course is FHEA accredited. Prior to enrolling on the course, I had never lived in Sheffield, however, I have found the proximity of the city to the Peak District National Park great.

What have you enjoyed most about the course?

I have thoroughly enjoyed my course content - I find exploring human anatomy to be extremely fun and interesting. The education module of the degree means that I have also developed teaching skills, which have supported my personal development throughout the year.

What did you do for your MSc research project?

My research project investigated ethnic inclusivity within anatomical science modules. This is a broad topic, which has exposed me to some insightful perspectives. I hope that my research will make a positive contribution to the experiences of fellow students to ensure that their voices are heard.

What professional skills have you developed during your course?

I have developed my teaching and laboratory dissection skills to a great extent. I have also really enjoyed coming up with innovative ideas to incorporate into my undergraduate teaching sessions, which has allowed me to become more confident in my own approach to education.

What transferable skills have you developed during your course?

Anatomy is a broad topic, and self-directed learning is a major part of this course. This means that I have had to develop the ability to manage my own workload. Furthermore, my confidence in teaching both online and face-to-face, as well as my ability to deliver presentations have both improved, which are both useful in a variety of disciplines.

What do you hope to do after your degree?

I will be teaching Human Anatomy and Biomechanics at higher education level. I’m extremely excited to start!

Research the course! Speak to the staff members and most importantly, reach out to previous graduates. If you are aiming to pursue a career in education, this course has a large component to springboard your career. Regarding the anatomical aspect, the experience of studying the human body is fantastic. Throughout the course, I would say you need to be ready to adapt to new learning styles and invest your time into the course.
